Cyprus: Shipwreck Cove, Akrotiri (Three Stars cargo ship)

Three Stars SS was a 1,791 tons 78,9×12,8×6,4 m Greek cargo ship type N3-S-A1 built in 1943 by Walterr Butler Shipbuilders Inc, Superior, Wisconsin, USA for the Ministry of War Transport as the GURDEN GATES.
During her life she had many owners and was renamed many times.
1949 BALTIC QUEEN 1950 CESARE CORSINI 1953 ARNO 1964 IRIDA 1965 O KALOS SAMARITIS 1965 THREE STARS.
On the 17th February 1967 she caught fire and ran aground at Episkopi Bay, Cyprus and declared a total loss.
It is partly submerged in 7 metres of water. read more

Famagusta Gate, Nicosia – #Cyprus (Republic)

Famagusta Gate is the most important of the three gates of the Venetian Walls of Nicosia in the eastern part of the walls in Old Nicosia. Built in the the 16th century by the Venetians and was originally named Porta Guiliani after Giulio Savorgnano, the designer of the walls.

The gate has been renovated in 1980 and has been a Nicosia Municipal Centre since then hosting various events and exhibitions indoors. On the outer side of the walls, there is also a small theatre and a lawn area where other events are being held. read more

Orthodox Greek Easter 2015: our walk took us along the Venetian walls and to the demarcation zone near Ermou Street (Nicosia) in the Republic of Cyprus.
Both the Turkish flag and the flag of Northern Cyprus can be seen flying together in this photo.
